It appears my brain can deal with using about 2.5 social media sites with any regularity, so adding a fandom Twitter account meant DW fell off the other side, as you can see by how long it's been since the last time I wrote a real post here. But since I came back from my week of teaching at the folk school to find all of Twitter on fire, I've resolved to try to shift my focus. We'll see how well it works!

Since I got into a bunch of tiny fandoms this year, I'm actually participating in Yuletide for the first time! I got my assignment (for a very intimidating person to me) shortly before I had to leave for the mountains to teach, and while I had managed to brainstorm an outline before I left, I got nothing written at all, which isn't really a surprise. I had 7 students, only one of whom had any experience, and 8 is the magic number that gets you an assistant, so it was understandable my brain was pretty done by the time I got back to my room. Waaaay more speaking out loud than I'm used to anymore. (On the bright side, my Masklab masks proved easy to talk in, and despite the school having gone to a "masks optional" policy a few weeks ago, almost everyone in my class kept theirs on in the studio when I said that's what I was going to be doing.)

My big sadness about the week was that I was cross-scheduled with the moku hanga printmaking class. This was the first time I'd ever seen that in the catalog, and I desperately wanted to take it. The end results they had displayed at the final showcase were all amazing, and the instructor confirmed they've asked him back, so now I'm waiting for the new listings to go up in January to sign up as soon as I can. (Of course, they schedule 18 months out, so it might not be taught until 2024, but at least now I know to look for it!)

The wi-fi actually works up there now, so I spent all the time I wasn't writing or knitting in my room watching dramas instead. Things watched:
  • Silent (Japanese, Viki, about a guy who lost his hearing after high school and cut ties with his girlfriend and friends from then, they finally run into him again years later) - caught up with the week's episode, which was once again a tearjerker. I remain impressed with the lead, who is really getting to show a lot more emotional acting chops than he did as the stoic guy in Keita Hatsukoi, and I feel like they're handling the D/deaf culture stuff really well.
  • Kabe Koji (Japanese, Viki, gruff manga artist/sunshine idol BL, which really tells you just about everything you need to know) - the actual title of this one is much longer, but I'm not typing all that out. Caught up with the week's episode, and now that it's getting into the meat of the plot, it's feeling much less over-the-top ridiculous.
  • Atom no Ko (Japanese, Blitz Fansubs, genius video game designer who left the industry years ago after the death of a friend gets pulled back in to help save his favorite independent toy company after a fire by making a game using their original characters) - I've been seeing gifs of this one on Tumblr and had to find it because of the main guy's excellent hair, but now that I've seen the two eps out so far, I'm happy to report it's worth watching for less shallow reasons as well!
  • Love in Contract (Korean, Viki, a woman who professionally stands in as a wife for men who need to appear married for social reasons decides to retire, and of course plot ensues in her efforts to finish up with her last two clients) - I watched all 14 available eps of this one in the past 3 days and am now impatiently waiting for the last couple to release! Despite the love triangle set-up, the jealousy between the two potential love interests is fairly minimal, and I am deeply invested.

Okay, that's enough rambling for now. I'll stop here in the interests of trying to make myself believe posts here don't have to be effort intensive!
